FAQs
Products & Materials
What are ThriveLiv mats made from?
Our mats are made from premium cork harvested from Portuguese cork oak forests, paired with a natural rubber base. They're free from PVC, TPE, and microplastics, and the cork surface is naturally antimicrobial and odor-resistant.
Is cork actually good for a yoga mat?
Yes. Cork gets grippier the more you sweat, which makes it ideal for hot yoga and sweaty practices. It's also naturally resistant to bacteria and odour, so it stays fresher for longer with minimal cleaning.
Will my mat smell like plastic when it arrives?
No. Because there's no PVC or synthetic foam involved, there's no "new mat" plastic smell straight out of the packaging.
Is harvesting cork harmful to trees?
No — cork bark is stripped by hand without ever felling the tree, and the trees continue to grow and absorb carbon afterward. This makes our supply chain carbon-positive from forest to studio.
What's included in a mat bundle?
Each bundle includes the cork yoga mat, a woven cotton carry bag, a bamboo silk eye mask, and a 20% discount voucher toward a future purchase.
Do you sell anything other than mats?
Yes — we also offer a glass water bottle with a protective cork sleeve and a natural mat care/grip spray, both available on their own or as part of a bundle.
Sizing & Care
What size are the mats?
Our standard mat dimensions are 175cm x 64cm x 0.4cm thick.
How do I clean my cork mat?
Cork needs very little maintenance — a gentle wipe with our botanical grip spray (or a damp cloth) is enough. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, as they aren't needed and can affect the cork surface.
Does the mat need "breaking in"?
Cork mats can feel slightly firmer at first and develop their signature grip as they're used, especially once they've been exposed to a bit of moisture (sweat or a light misting).
Sustainability & Certifications
Is ThriveLiv B Corp certified?
Not yet — we're currently working toward B Corp accreditation, which requires meeting rigorous standards across governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. It's a benchmark we're actively pursuing.
Are your products vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes, our products are sustainably sourced, ethical, and vegan, with no animal-derived materials used.
Are the mats built to last, or are they a one-season product?
They're designed to be durable and long-lasting, in line with our goal of reducing single-use, disposable yoga gear.
